I just looked through the YouTube video... on page 6 or 7... I could be mistaken, but I think Culpepper's helmet was British. Maybe WW2 era, but I'm thinking earlier. I don't know exactly how late that pattern was used. Or, I saw some old Civil Defense helmets... could be one of those repainted OD. If I'm seeing it right, this one's not as flat as the U.S. M1917.

One question I've had... M1917 and M1 helmets. Most of what I see in new condition are remakes aimed at re-enactors. One source describes their M1917 as made to the same specs as the originals, while not saying the same for their M1. I know my grandfathers depended on the originals, but I don't know if I should consider these remakes. The originals I see on eBay... a good many are rusty beat-up antiques with dry-rotted guts for $what-are-they-smoking. Any other model and I know even less.

Remember, I have no intention of wading through a major city's riot. Those bloggers who argued this lately... they didn't recommend wearing a helmet in a lot of rural situations, except when defending a static position, which most civilians haven't/won't.
